A Commemoration Ceremony to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Handover of Cork Harbour Treaty Forts with the Principal Guest, An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, T.D., will be held on Spike Island on Thursday, 11th July, 2013 commencing at 12.20pm. A Ceremonial Flag Raising will be performed by Members of the Defence Forces as part of this ceremony. This will be followed by a public conversation facilitated by University College Cork entitled ‘Historical Perspectives on the Handover of the Treaty Forts’. This public conversation will be moderated by Myles Dungan, broadcaster and presenter of the History Show, RTE.
Tickets are available for members of the public to attend this event with the ferry departing from Kennedy Pier, Cobh at 09.20am and returning to Cobh from 2.30pm onwards. The cost of the ferry will be €8 per adult, €5 per child and €20 per family.
Whilst waiting for proceedings to commence, visitors will have the opportunity to avail of a 45 minute Free Guided Tour of the Island which will be conducted by Titanic Trails Ltd. Visitors can also stroll around the Fort Grounds or take the beautiful scenic 1.6km glacis walk around the perimeter of the ort and enjoy the panoramic views of Cork harbour. The Coffee Shop will also be open for tea, coffee and snacks.
